Scamsite news

Remember, the following are all scams. Obviously, do not visit them.

oink.cx.la is still up
oink.we.bs is dead
oink.s4u.0lx.net> is dead
oink.pytalhost.com is dead
oink.pms.cc is dead
savy.ath.cx/OiNK/ is dead
oink.6x.to is up

Again, please don't be stupid enough to give money to that scam.

As predicted, November 1st came and went, and they're still making excuses and asking for money.

edit: For those still confused on how to get into IRC...
1. Download and install an IRC client of your choice (common choices are xchat for linux, xchat aqua for Mac, and mIRC for windows.)
2. Connect to irc://irc.p2p-network.net.
3. Type /msg nickserv register yourpassword your@email
4. Type /join #oink
5. Revel in the intelligent discussion we have going, for example:
Paine> Someone say something stupid
asrivat> something stupid.

edit 2: For the tech smarts
- SSL is on port 7000
- vhosts are available in #vhosts
NoOneButMe> #vhosts vhosts are only temporary
NoOneButMe> Might be worth mentioning that?
- hostnames are partially spoofed automatically.

edit 3: A lot of people are asking about http://waffles.fm
A few of it's owners (at least, they claimed to be) have contacted me via IRC and said it's going to be a new tracker. It's not 'endorsed' by us, however it doesn't look like a scam.

It's not really much of a scam if it doesn't ask for money ;)

EDIT 4: .cx.la and waffles.fm are not the same site
They just both happened to pick a November 1st release date. It's pretty obvious that the scamsite is now going to use it as their "final destination" on November 1st too, though.

Or they'll just point to an already established site and pretend the money went to the site when it's really lining their pockets.

Anonymous said...

And if not?

Anonymous said...

Sorry if it's been asked before, but I was curious if, in case Alan has to pay a fine, people will be able to help him pay for it? I mean like giving him some money to be able to pay his fine?
I've always liked him a lot and I feel very bad for what has happened to him :S

nissa -- we'll cross those bridges if we come to them.

Don't these sites amount to fraud? Where's the police when you need them?? Oh yeah, sorry, I forgot...bit busy at the moment aren't they.

Anonymous said...

Thanks, just wanted to know if something like that would happen if it would be posted here. So I need what to keep my eye on :)
I really want to help him out if needed :) Thanks!

Thanks for the reminder and the quick scorecard re: the scam sites, paine.

The twats behind .cx .la have been busy spamming every forum they can find (as you know) so it pays to point this out should you see their spam elsewhere. At the very least, they've had to work harder for their ill-gotten gains. I see their site has improved somewhat from laughable to barely presentable.

Anonymous said...

These scam sites crack me up how full of shit they are. Now they claim to have customized their own utorrent, a program that has been closed source from day 0. And available on Macs too!

Here are my predictions for Nov 1:
a) a log in form will be displayed
b) all user/pass (real or not) combos will be invalid and won't work
c) no new accounts will even be ostensibly allowed
d) the owners will proclaim that thousands of ex-oinkers are having an orgy of torrented goodness and anyone with invalidated accounts is obviously a industry spy
e) a few hours into the opening day, a message will proclaim that the servers are buckling under the pressure and they need more money asap!

as a mac user, i personally recommend colloquy, though xchat aqua works. just my 2 cents.

How can people deserve to be involved with OiNK in the first place if they can't figure out how to use IRC?

No offense.

bk said...

I got into the IRC fine last night, but when I try to log in this morning, I'm met with the message "#oink unable to join channel (address is banned)"

Who do I have to pay off to get back in?

Anonymous said...

I've noticed that .cx .la have improved the wording on their website, as well. Quit pointing out its flaws! You are only helping these scammers. They are obviously reading comments posted.

I'm interested to see what happens on the 1st. There will be an intricate mechanism in place no doubt to fool the noobs.

By now, the word should be out about this though. Keep it up, Paine!

i want to know how much bail money oink had to put up =)

Anonymous said...

Of the three that are still up, they are apparently all being run by the same group of people. I wouldn't be surprised if they were affiliated with the likes of Media-Defender. I've seen the miivi.com "experiment" and this feels very similar. It doesn't take too much imagination to figure out the best time to scam ex-OiNK users is now amid the chaos while they're all searching for a replacement. It's a shame we won't be able to warn them all before they get duped by it.

Anonymous said...

Hilarious how the site(s) referenced here have deleted their claim to have developed a 100% encrypted bit torrent client. I was really looking forward to using that. ;-p

they now appear in the search results at the oink.cd google link as well.

Anonymous said...

Who the hell keeps donating to these sites!!??

Anonymous said...

I would suggest ignoring the #oink irc channel. Someone gave the wrong people halfops.

Anonymous said...

sorry if this is of topic or whatever but I have been dieing to ask this question.
has oink or other mods to your knowledge been in contact with TMT.
I know its going around everywhere that he will never be herd from again.

also, if and when oink puts up a donation to relaunch the site... he and other mods could get the money not only get bigger and better serves than before but even a round of drinks for every single oinker. most people are just dieing to donate! there is just so much happening with no real concrete answers as to when and if oink the site will return. my I say you paine are the only one holding me and many others together and I thank you for that.

Thanks paine for all you do:)

Kinda ironic that the scammer site got a hold of a few admin's names. I t looks pretty convincing right now, and thats the scary part.

Oh, its Gooose BTW

Anonymous said...

Paine, do you have any thoughts on waffles.fm ?

Anonymous said...

Just so you guys know, waffles.fm has opened.

Aka O2, the thing a couple of silly geese bashed during the last couple of days.

Anonymous said...

The language pf the guys sounds the same as the one that get caught (famous forum thread) trading. Do not remember his name,

Any word on whether Waffles.fm is legit? The site is worded plainly, but IMO the burden is on Oink's successor to go out of its way to prove that it's not a honeytrap for ex-oinkers.

You probably hate these questions, but: any take on what.cd? legit?

Paine said...

what.cd seems to be gaining popularity, but it's not "official".

Anonymous said...

"i want to know how much bail money oink had to put up =)"

None.

So what is this "surprise" on the 1st going to be?

Anonymous said...

Did anybody get into What.cd before they closed registration? Just checked and now you need an invite. I was wondering if anybody had an comments on the site??

Anonymous said...

From what.cd:

We're being hit by a distributed denial of service attack. Please bear with us while we attempt to resolve this issue.

I'm not in like Flint… (>.<)

Nathaniel said...

What.CD is ok, but needs improvement. The search is still very basic, and the server can barely handle the ~3000 users they have right now. Still, it has potential.
Though, if waffles.fm turns out to be semi-official, I don't doubt many will jump ship and join waffles instead.

Anonymous said...

what.cd is going very well at the moment. There are still a number of bugs that need to be worked out, and now they're one less admin, it's going to be longer to do so.

Anonymous said...

Is it just me or is this guy crazy for registering it in his own name?

Ah, so on the 1st of November, you're just go to attempt to ddos those sites, again, and fail, again.

Anonymous said...

okay, 80 minutes before the BIG unveil and waffles.cd still has no other files uploaded to their public directory.
Is this a big nothing?

Anonymous said...

FUCK.. i guess i'm stupid then. I just sent some fucker 7$. I was never an oink user, however I thought it good to support its service. Too bad ended supporting some asshole.

Can someone please invite me! I was a relatively new oink user with a .7 ratio and almost 5 Gigs uploaded. robert_ingalls@hotmail.com

Anonymous said...

I'm concerned that waffles.fm could be some sort of interpol honeypot. Can you do anything to confirm its safety?

Unknown said...

The problem for old oink-ers who are out of the loop is getting invites to all these new wannabes. Wish there was some way to prove you had an oink account before to get a new invite, but sadly I doubt there's any way.
Oh well, i guess i'll just have to wait another 6 months before someone sends me an invite.

Anonymous said...

what.cd is legit and its community looks friendlier than waffles atm imho.
i got in before they hit the 8k limit and they say that a new server will be online around nov 6. that's when they're gonna let more people in, as right now the current server is overloaded like hell.

Anonymous said...

Agree with rohan. If you're somebody that never used the IRC channel (like me)it means you're completely cut off from the user base.

Anonymous said...

From the waffles.fm invite page.
Note, until we upgrade our hardware (in a day, possibly two) your invite counter will read zero. When we get new hardware, every user will have their total invites set to 3 (not 3 on their current total). This is because we had some glitches which meant people signed up but their account was never created. This issue should be resolved.

You can't replace OiNK, but waffles i feel is gonna try real hard to.

Anonymous said...

Dear god yes. It's going to take forever before I get an invite - just like with oink.

schatze said...

you said it. I was so excited when I finally got my ratio over 3, and now it's gone. I went to look for a calendar application, and I found myself lost. I'm such a tool.

Anonymous said...

Oink was fun but it's nice to leave Transmission off for once. I had been seeding 200+ torrents for months, and it's nice to take a break.

Oh, and NEVER FORGET

-herograw

Unknown said...

Yeah, it's a massive shame Oink is no more. I'd invited a lot of friends to Oink over the years I'd been a member, but only me and one other mate had manage to keep our ratios in tip top shape. Was a member of Oink for years and can't remeber how I got an invite. Maybe years ago, when Oink first started you didn't need invited. Just remember the good times, something else, (not as good as Oink), will pop up, eventually.

Anonymous said...

oink was great in everyway music is a spiritual need and shouldn't be that expensive specially because those companies who hunt down downloaders don't realize:
a) most of those downloaders goes to the artists concert!
b) they don't even represent one decent musician (brittney spears and etc. doesn't count as musician at all...)
c) that not everything is involved with money radiohead showed that music and not merchendising will bring you more fans let the listners decide...

so oink guys(admins and comunity) wherever and whomever you are thank you I wish you luck at whatever you may do and music is human soul without it we aren't worth alot

Unknown said...

Someone has to report these guys to their local municipal authorities. I don't like police when it comes to gray areas, but these guys are obviously using the oink name for personal gain, and I can't express how wrong that is, and how pissed off i am. If i wasn't as lazy as I am, I would trace these guys back through proxies and firewalls, and personally walk into their crib with a .22, some bleach and then proceed to make some music.

Anonymous said...

I really miss you all. Oink was the nicest place to be. I gave a friend of mine a disk to check out and he really dug it. Next thing I know I get an e-mail and an invitation to Oink. Man, I can't tell you how excited I was to discover the proverbial gold mine of music at my fingertips and whim. Now, almost every other site has closed registration and people selling memberships on e-bay. Really miss my Oink. You guys were the best. Is there any place out there even remotely close to pink?

Anonymous said...

What is on Waffles.fm? What do they specialize in? Music, movies, games?

ThaNeuroNaut said...

Waffles.fm and what.cd bare both general music trackers. People are rushing to them thinking that they will be the Oink. Both of those sites are closed or invite only at the moment. The truth is the only sure way to tell which site will be the next Oink is when that site becomes the next Oink. Theres alot more quality material out there thanks to Oink seeders and if many of these trackers start really let there users start uploading then the ball may begin to roll. Unfortunately for many of the music trackers out there the uploading rights are controled by the admins or special people designated to be uploaders. IMO thats what really got the ball rolling for Oink.

i think "oink" is changing the way people use media

i wouldn't be surprised if people found ways to make money off music/software while giving it away for free. as a musician that's how I'd like to have it be... all my music released for free and i'm still living rich. i guess radiohead is paving the way for that one, eh?

-art

Anonymous said...

I agree. I wish there was a method to verify if a person was a legitmate Oink member.

I was also an Oink member (before it was invite only) and maintained a good ratio through the years.

I sure wish these new invite only trackers can verify Oink members and give us a chance to join.

I'm not supposed to forget but have in turn been forgotten. What's the gig with Waffles anyway? How many members are there any why is it already invite only? It just doesn't seem fair for us long time supporters.

I miss oink....although I was quite new to the whole thing, and couldn't quite get round the uploading thingy, I did my fair share of seeding.

It was soo, out of the blue.

I guess the oink community are have to disperse out to the other sites now. I found oink the most pleasurable site to be on, no snide comments from know-it-alls, or cursing, just a good, all round welcoming community.

It shall be missed....

Anonymous said...

After downloading a couple oldies I had to have, the first thing I downloaded is the 24GB Adobe CS3 master collection. I was almost at 1 when they shut it down. I got my oink invite from inviteshare. A couple people should let the inviteshare folks know that oink is shut down and waffles.fm and what.cd need invite pages. I did, but a couple other people won't hurt

Anonymous said...

I was also a loyal oinker who had a share ratio of 2.5 before it disappeared. Oink has lead me to purchase more albums and books then I had ever purchased in the past. It also lead me to download some absolutely crappy music that anyone would be upset on spending $15 on. Thank you for enriching my life and broadening my horizons Oink. See you all again in the future I'm sure.

hello all, yeah i was an ex.oinker but im not gonna give the whole thing that i uploaded, donated yadda yadda, i am just an ex oinker, i would like to say some things, first and foremost thanks to these types of sites that encourage the utmost forms of sharing and the fact that we should all share our wealths and cultures across the board, number two these types of sites always come and go, thats how it works, and last but not least, in many ways, lets cut out the elitism that seems to exist in some of these sites, including oink sometimes, we need to reach out and let everyone in who wants to be a part of, some people are less fortunate than others, i would suggest that instead of an invite, there would be a mandatory first upload, as in, you would be required at these sites to upload 2-3 good albums, programs, or films not already on the site of course, that way the people wanting to get a membership would be able to prove that they are willing to share, its just an idea, excuse my english skills

As to not having invites...

These sites aren't just for sharing resourses they are also communities. And as a member of these communities you tend to be a little protective of each other.

There needs to be some measure of control over who joins these communities (not just wether they share or not) sharing information may be what initially draws people to these sites but it usually turns into somehting more as the people get to know each other.

I for one am all for invites to contol who roams the community halls.

I have made long time friends from around the world in these communities.
When something happends to them it means more to me than just a sharing site.. you can go anywhere to get files... friends are harder to come by.

I would go there even if there was no sharing.

Unknown said...

Ok first of all. Get a life. These are file sharing sites and that's all. You should go out more often. Don't get on here with your self righteous blah blah blah. Community my ass. It's a place where everyone can get what they want while giving at the same time. A mere symbiotic relationship.

Anonymous said...

Amen!

Anonymous said...

To get a real ball rolling, just ignore all those invite-only and ratio sites. Just create torrents for all the crap you have on your disks and up them to all open trackers, like Pirate Bay. If you're really such "share with the world" people you claim to be then the seeder/leecher ratio won't bother you.

Oink is dead. So is Demonoid. There will never be anything like them. So just start seeding like crazy everywhere else, instead of whining about them.

treasurebox said...

I still have E-mails from Oink in my inbox proving that I was an Oink Power User, I guess I could forward these emails to the Administrators of Waffles.fm and What.cd proving this and then ask them to sign me up with the same user name and e-mail.

However I don't really trust them yet as according to the bastards that shut down Oink (IFPI, BPI, Cleveland [U.K.] police and the Fiscal Investigation Unit of the Dutch police) "A criminal investigation continues into the identities and activities of the site's users"

How can we be sure this is not a "HoneyPot" trap set up to screw us?

Anonymous said...

How can i tell if a torrent site is simply collecting ip adds for XXAA? e.g. is isohunt legit or what? i know a few people who still use that...

Anonymous said...

I still use isohunt. Although, not for music.

Anonymous said...

I have to say that I am beginning to think along the lines of the "honeypot trap" myself. Has anyone actually gotten an account with waffles.fm or what.cd?

The reason I am starting to worry is that I originally read that the oink domains were directed to pirate bay nameservers which is not the case. oink.cd has an American nameserver... Also, boink.cd which is said to be a pirate bay initiative doesn't even use pirate bay nameservers.

In short it seems that most sources stating that waffles.fm and what.cd as replacements could actually be the authorities' sites. Using proof of oink membership as a way in seems like the perfect way to build cases against users..

Does anyone have a "reliable" source source that these sites are what they say they are?

Unknown said...

Wow the site is down, i was away for some time and just checked it as someone said its down, damn and there it is down -__-

i i have an account with waffles and while I don't agree with the over-exclusivity since it's leading to a lot of seeding and next-to-no-leeching, I can attest that it's legitimate. You need to have 5GB up and 5GB down to get ONE invite. It's pretty ridiculous.

I had a couple of what invites as well, but those went bye-bye pretty quickly.

Hey!!

What sites do you recommend for torrents? And how can I get an invite to places like waffles? I'm lost without OiNK!

Thanks!

This is disgraceful.
God the music industry makes me laugh.

To any 'officials' reading this post.

You are lame.
Show some respect for artistic expression.

RIP Oink.
